This course aims to train participants how to provide immediate care for some common First Aid Emergencies and Injuries that may occur within a familiar environment. The course is tailored to meet the needs of common life-threatening emergencies and First Aid injuries that can occur. Included in the course programme is the Irish Heart Foundation/American Heart Association, HeartSaver AED Defibrillator course, which provides training in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation and AED Defibrillation for the adult/child. Integrated also into this course are numeracy and literacy modules.
By participating and engaging in this course teachers will acquire life-saving skills that aim to give them the competence and ability to manage immediate care situations where First Aid may be required so that they can provide immediate care to a sick or injured person while awaiting the arrival of more qualified aid. The course involves a mix of both theory and practical skills, and the course content incorporates both the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC) Guidelines for Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and the Cardiac First Responder Guidelines, while also covering immediate essential skills of a First Aider.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will receive an A Cardiac First Responder Certificate and a Certification of Attendance at a Basic First Aid Level Course provided by a Registered Provider and Licensed First Aid Instructor, both of which are valid for two years.
