Dear Designated Liaison Person,
Tusla, the Child and Family Agency launched their Child Protection and Welfare Strategy in 2017. The strategy, planned over a 5 year period, focuses on the vision 'To provide an appropriate, proportionate, timely response to children at risk / in need, sharing responsibility and control with families and communities through co-created solutions and inter-agency collaboration'.
Tusla have adopted a new national approach to practice called 'Signs of Safety' and are in the process of providing training on the approach to all their staff. The Signs of Safety approach uses supporting tools to assist staff in their everyday work with children and families. Tusla want to engage with its partners particularly the Department of Education and Science around the implementation of the strategy and reflect their contributions in the plan.
Tusla want to provide Briefing Sessions on the 'Signs of Safety' approach to practice to all D.L.P.'s (or relevant appropriate nominees). The sessions will give an overview of the Signs of Safety approach, examine some of the tools used, explain what to expect whenever you make a referral and look at what will be different. The briefings will last approximately 2 hours and will be particularly useful to teachers reporting child protection / welfare concerns or attending Child Protection Conferences.
Briefings have been organised for the following dates at Monaghan Education Centre.
1. Thursday April 4th at 4pm
2. Thursday April 11th at 4pm
Bookings for either of the above dates can be made by visiting www.metc.ie
