'Assessment Ambassador' Pilot Programme (Session One)

Are you interested in learning more about Assessment in the Primary school context and sharing this learning with others?

If so, please have a look at our ‘Assessment Ambassador’ Pilot Programme, hosted by Monaghan Education Support Centre, which will involve a total of six 1.5 hour sessions (3 in-person and 3 online) over the course of a year between May 2026 and May 2027.

The first session will take place in Monaghan Education Support Centre on Monday 25th May 2026 at 4.30pm.

Anchor Facilitator: Dr Noreen Fiorentini (supported by Teresa Mc Sorley, Director of Monaghan ESC and guest speakers)

The aim of this course is to deepen participants; knowledge and understanding about Assessment with a view to enhancing teachers’ confidence along with their individual and collective assessment practices in primary schools.

Participants on this programme will:

• Extend their knowledge and understanding re Assessment Literacy.
• Explore how digital technologies can be used to support classroom assessment in aiming to improve pupils' learning and their motivation for learning.
• Gain confidence and experience in evaluating play-based and inquiry-based learning in primary school contexts.
• Examine how best to foster learner self-assessment and critical reflection on learning in the range of primary school contexts with learners at various ages and stages and coming from a range of ethnic, social and cultural backgrounds.
• Identify areas of priority in relation to Assessment relevant to their own school context which will inform the content of the course and the Teacher Professional Learning activities.
• Develop confidence and competence in monitoring and making judgements about learning across a range of curricular areas including Irish in English medium schools.
• Work collaboratively with an assigned tutor/ facilitator to develop a workshop on assessment facilitators to facilitate a session for a school staff/ cluster of staff groupings in the catchment area of Monaghan ESC (optional).
