Within this workshop we will discuss what do we mean by highly able/gifted/exceptionally able learners? We will engage with research that challenges stereotypes around these learners and we will demonstrate why it is important in terms of student well-being and school engagement to ensure we include these learners in our classrooms. We will explore how can we identify them, particularly when there many reasons why identification might not be straight forward. We will share practical strategies that build on existing practice and which can include all learners including the gifted/highly able.

You will come away from the day with an understanding of:

  • Who these learners are
  • Different approaches for identifying them and their needs
  • Practical strategies for including challenge for them and all learners in your classroom
