Starting a Maths Circle in your Primary School (Face-to-Face Information Session)

Starting a Maths Circle in your Primary School (Face-to-Face Information Session)

This is a workshop aimed at primary school Maths teachers who might consider starting a Maths Circle for 5th or 6th Class pupils. At this workshop, we will provide ideas, methodologies and practical advice, but we also see it as an opportunity for like-minded teachers to get together and share their experience.

Here is some background information.

Maths Circles are lunch-time or after-school clubs, run by teachers in their schools. They provide learning activities in an informal setting that are designed to foster the enjoyment of mathematics by young people. The tradition goes back to more than a century in some countries in central and eastern Europe. In Ireland, Maths Circles were started a few years ago in the Cork area.

The Maths Circles Ireland initiative offers teachers the opportunity to enhance the teaching of creative problem solving in schools, based on our Maths Circles Handbook with fully-detailed and classroom-tested lesson plans. It can be downloaded for free from mathscircles.ie.
