Ergonomics – emphasis on getting screen height right, accessories.

Overview of Alternative Keyboard and Mice

To include large key keyboards and child friendly mice

Speech recognition (Voice access on iPad, Google Typing , inbuilt in Office 365, Dragon)

Brief look at alternative access – eyegaze, and switches(?)

Using the computer:

Typing practice

Organising folders etc

Online storage, particularly for iPads, Chromebooks

Using digital textbooks (look at OneNote/PDF annotators)

Software for literacy: (using programmes such as Natural Reader, Penfriend, ClaroRead, TextHelp, Grammarly, Ginger, Immersive Reader, Reader Pen)

Reading (text to speech, picture support, dictionaries)

Spelling/Gammar support

Ways of editing documents/worksheets

Monaghan Education Centre in partnership with Enable Ireland’s National Assistive Technology Training Service is hosting four 1 hour webinars on assistive technology to support pupils in the classroom. The first two sessions will focus on the SEN setting in primary school while the second two will focus on the secondary school setting. Technology has progressed rapidly in recent years and there are many software applications as well as hardware options which can support pupils with a range of disabilities and other challenges to reach their potential.
