Learning Outcomes:
To provide teachers with a bank of practical ideas to teach a modern foreign language in the primary classroom. To develop an understanding of the relevance of communicative competence, metalinguistic awareness and intercultural awareness in the modern language lesson. To give teachers confidence in using the learned ideas to aid their introduction of a modern foreign language in the primary classroom.

Facilitator: Dr. Brendan Duignan
Brendan has over 20 years’ experience working in primary education and has taught at primary level in England, France, Dublin and Mayo. He was also the Regional Advisor with the Modern Languages in Primary Schools Initiative. Additionally, he has presented at a variety of national and international conferences, been guest lecturer in St. Patrick’s College, Drumcondra, and Mary Immaculate College in Limerick and after completing his PhD, Brendan gained an Associate Fellowship with the University of Lincoln. Brendan is currently Special Education Teacher in Co. Mayo and guest lecturer with Maynooth University.
